About
What God Has Written
My name is Chidera, an Igbo name that means “what God has written.”
That meaning has shaped both my life and my work.
As an artist, I’m drawn to stories of identity, purpose, and human dignity. Through portraiture and symbolic imagery, I create paintings that invite people to slow down and reflect on the beauty that already exists within themselves and others.
Why DERA
The name DERA comes from the last four letters of my name, which means “to write,” and it reminds me that every person carries a story worth telling.
As a Christian, I believe every person is created in the image of God and possesses inherent worth.
While my paintings often explore themes of culture, identity, and purpose they’re ultimately an invitation to pause and see ourselves and one another with greater compassion.
A Symbol Within the Brand
The three marks in the DERA logo are inspired by Nsibidi, an ancient writing system used throughout parts of southern Nigeria.
